No round home-key for the iPhone 5

No round home-key for the iPhone 5

According to sources a supposed screen-protector for the upcoming iPhone 5 has been found in Hong Kong. Obviously there will be a larger display; however the screen protector also confirms that the home button will have a whole new design. The new key will probably be a rounded rectangle now, replacing the traditional circular home key. We aren’t very sure if this is legit, but this surely brings in some excitement to iPhone lovers.

iPad iOS 5 vs. Windows 8 tablet comparison video

Microsoft recently launched Windows 8 OS and the best part about the OS is that it is getting more favour towards the tablet market. The UI reminds us of the tiles that we have on Windows Phone, right? So how is going to stand up against the most popular tablet in the world, the iPad? Well, Winrumours has posted a 10 minute long comparison video for you to decide.

NO ROAMING and PAN INDIA MNP

If the Draft Telecom Policy 2011 comes into effect soon then people in India may not have to pay roaming charges when they travel across the country. The Draft Telecom Policy has suggested that roaming charges be abolished in India and consumers should not be charged if they use their mobile while they travel to another telecom circles. This may come as a big relief for consumers but telecom companies may object this as it will result in revenue loss to them.

In countries like the US, there is no roaming charge if the subscriber travels within the country irrespective of the state he belongs to and is in. India is as of now divided into 22 circles and once a person leaves his Telecom Circle, the service provider charges him for both incoming and outing calls.

The Draft also suggests extending MNP (Mobile Number Portability) to circles and thus allow consumer to retain the number when he moves to a new city or location anywhere in the country, and not have to pay roaming charges. And this will happen only if all the telecom companies are issued single permit for the whole country, but this new licensing framework and migration of all Mobile Phone companies to a single permit will be time consuming.

If this proposal is approved, it’ll only be implemented by next year.

LG announces the Optimus Hub

LG has announced the LG Optimus Hub, which seems to be the successor of the popular Optimus One. Running on Google’s Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread operating system, it comes with a 3.5 inch HVGA LCD, 800 MHz CPU and 512 MB RAM. The Optimus Hub will also include a 5 megapixel camera, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 and 3G with 3.6Mbps HSDPA.

The only cause of concern should be ARMv6 core processor, which means that the hadnset will not be able to run apps that require ARMv7 as a minimum. For example, Adobe Flash Player and Firefox for Android require ARMv7 to run.

It is expected to be launched in October and priced around €199. So do you think it’ll be able to match the popularity of Optimus One?

Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) update now available for LG Optimus One in India

Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) update for LG Optimus One is now available. In last week of August 2011, few blogs reported about the availability of Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) update for LG Optimus One (P500. I have been trying almost daily from 26th or might be 27th August to update my device but the update was not available. Tonight I checked again and voila!

I updated my LG Optimus One with Gingerbread a few minutes back, so as such I have nothing much to say about it. However what I can tell you is that, I do not like the dark theme much and the QWERTY Keyboard in Android  2.2 was better. Checkout the screenshots.

Update : Contrary to what I felt earlier about the UI, now I am feeling that it's quite good and smooth, and the colorul icons looks great. One of the major issues which most of the Android Smartphone users have is the battery consumption, with this update the battery usage have been better and I felt my battery now last longer than earlier. Do update your device and let us know what do you feel about the Gingerbread update on LG Optimus One.

Nokia announces Car Mode app for in-car entertainment

Nokia just announced via its blog a brand new Qt based application which will make use of MirrorLink technology. The car mode application will be available to all Symbian Belle smartphones alongside the Nokia N9. The application will make it easier for users to access phone functions while driving.

The application will let you control your smartphone without touching it by mirroring the contents on the car head unit. Floris van de Klashorst, Director of Automotive Services in Nokia’s Location & Commerce business says that “Users have maps, music and plenty of other features on their phones; MirrorLink unlocks them for when they’re in their cars.” While the technology will presumably require use of car head units which support MirrorLink , it will definitely go a long way in improving road safety.
